For a few days now, I been hearing a screech screech chirping from a little birdie in the trees. Yesterday suddenly, I could get a clear view and took some pictures.
From the shape of the beak, it looked like a shrike, but so little! And the bandit mask around the eyes is there as well, though a bit faded and the white brow above. So this is probably the brown shrike, and I noticed this bird for the first time!
I have birds coming to my porch too, these days, as I put out seed...mostly stellar jays but also adorable little juncos and, sometimes, two grey-white doves.
ReplyDeleteYes, and I remember your posting a picture of your birdfeed contraption which attracted humming birds. Some of these birds are quite intelligent and their powers of perception are way beyond us. Thank you, Sherry
DeleteVery attracting birds...

Awesome bird photography, as usual!
ReplyDeleteWhen will you publish your "Birds of India" book?
Thank you Rita, for such kind words, but I'm just not experienced or qualified enough. This bird is just about the size of a sparrow, yet, it impales it's kill, often grabbing it by its beak and beating the hell out of it. Right little devil! Rainy today, could hear it's screech in the trees but no visual. Thanks again, Rita
