Sunbird Splendour

Another day of sudden, pelting rain. While the greenery might be loving it, human beings in this corner on earth have been inconvenienced not a little by breakdowns in power supply for long periods, meaning really long since the back up systems too gave up.

Flipping through my albums, I came upon these pictures of the purple sunbird taken one bright morning in February. Arguably, my best pictures of these tiny, beautiful birds ...

This is the first time I noticed the golden spot just below the shoulders and that was because I scarcely ever saw it at repose. If not busy merrily chasing each other in crazy flight, they were almost always sighted peering into some flower or the other, hanging upside down and flitting continuously from here to there to everywhere

  2. I'm sorry to hear about your power outages, Soumyendu.

Tim and I spent the last week without any power as well, but it was by choice. We primitive-camped in the wilds of Wyoming and had no access to electricity or phone service. Tim fished the upper Green River and Grey's River and had a wonderful time catching different species of trout.

Your bird photos are spectacular, as always. This little sunbird surely brightened a winter's day!

    1. Please tell us the rest of the story Rita, especially how you treated that trout to fire :)

Many, many thanks as always and yup, the sunbird really makes my day!

    2. The rest of the story is that Tim caught four species of trout on this vacation—Brook, Brown, Rainbow and Cutthroat. We prepared fresh cutthroat with a coating of flour, cornmeal, salt and pepper and it was positively delicious!

    3. Oh wow! Maybe I could have added some mint leaves and sprigs which grows in abundance here, for the flavour and yes, it helps in digestion as well :)

Looks like Tim has mastered the art of zen in his angling pastimes!
